Allen Helps Duke Rolls Past Louisville

The Duke Blue Devils continue to play inspired and improved basketball as they wallop Louisville 82-56 in Cameron Indoor Stadium.

The Blue Devils are in a hotly contested race for second place in the ACC regular season standings and are riding a four game winning streak.

Grayson Allen, who has been on a tear of late, led Duke with 28 points.  The Duke senior captain knocked down 6 three pointers on the evening while dishing out 3 assists.

Wendell Carter Jr. added 18 points to go with 9 rebounds, but more impressively led his team in assists with 6 for the game.

The only other double figure scorer was Gary Trent Jr. who tallied 11 points.  But the story of this game was not the Duke offense, but another great defensive effort.

Duke had 10 steals in thee game led by Trevon Duval who had half of those by himself.  Duke also had 5 timely blocks in the game and caused 15 turnovers.

It was the first time since the 1980-81 season Duke has held three ACC opponents under 60 points.

The Blue Devils continue to get great effort from players other than normal starters.  Javin DeLaurier in his second career start played with energy before fouling out.  His numbers were 5 points, 8 rebounds, 1 block and 1 steal.

Marques Bolden seemed more comfortable than at any time this season.  The big man flushed home a couple of impressive dunks, ran the floor well while playing wide having 4 defensive rebounds and 5 total.

And then there was Jack White, who added 4 points and 5 rebounds including a monster dunk in fifteen minutes of play.

Duke held a 44-30 advantage on the boards and hit a stellar 15 of 16 free throws in the win.

Duke held Louisville to just five three-point made buckets and 35.9% shooting in the game.  The Blue Devils also shared the ball well with 16 team wide assists.

The Blue Devils jumped out to a 42-25 lead in the first half and never looked back.  For the second consecutive game, Duke showed the ability to close a game out or perhaps it is better stated, that they did not allow Louisville back in the game.

Duke continues to play their best defense of the season where Krzyzewski once again mentioned they are talk better on the floor.  The Blue Devils also seem light on their feet and look like they are focused in and having fun while doing so.

Krzyzewski said that he and his staff would watch film of this game and Syracuse tonight.  He joked the media was not the only ones who worked late.

Mike Patrick who retired from ESPN was honored tonight by the Duke SID's and then Krzyzewski after the contest.  Trevon Duval has his seventh 3 plus steal game.  Wendell Carter Jr. now leads the Duke team in double figure scoring games with 24.

Duke will host Syracuse on ESPN this Saturday at 6:15.  Duke will play all of their remaining games on ESPN.  With the win Duke moved to 23-5 overall and 11-4 in the ACC.
