Wendell Carter Jr. ACC Rookie of the Week

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- Duke forward Wendell Carter, Jr., was named the ACC Rookie of the Week for the third time on Monday. The Blue Devils have earned 16 ACC weekly awards this season, tying the league record for the most in a single season.

Carter averaged 17.0 points and 9.5 rebounds in leading Duke to a pair of ACC wins over Louisville and Syracuse this past week as the Blue Devils extended their winning streak to five games. In addition to leading the team in points and rebounds last week, he also had team highs in assists (10) and blocked shots (five), while collecting four steals.

The rookie from Atlanta was 11-of-21 (.524) from the field, knocked down his only three and was 11-of-11 at the free-throw line. In Wednesday’s win over Louisville, he had 18 points, nine rebounds, a career-high six assists and three blocks. He followed that Saturday with 16 points and 10 rebounds for his 15th double-double, to go with four assists, a career-high four steals and two blocks.

He has scored in double-figures in 19 straight games, and leads the Blue Devils with 26 double-figure games this season.

The 16 awards for Duke matches the conference record set by the Blue Devils in 2014-15.

No. 5 Duke (24-5, 12-4) is at Virginia Tech Monday night looking to sweep the season series from the Hokies. The game tips at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN.
