Duke Crushes Iona in NCAA opener

The Duke Blue Devils had little problem in disposing of Iona 89-67 in their opening game of the Midwest Regional in Pittsburgh, PA.

Duke never trailed in the contest and had 24 assists on 36 made baskets on the offensive end.

The Blue Devils were led in scoring by Marvin Bagley III who had 22 points to go with 7 rebounds.

Trevon Duval added 19 points and 8 assists while going 4 of 5 from three-point range.

Duke team captain, Grayson Allen led the team in assists with 9 on the day while scoring 16 points to go with 4 rebounds.

Gary Trent Jr. added 16 points to go with 6 rebounds and fellow freshman Wendell Carter Jr. went for 8 points, 8 rebounds and a team high 2 steals.

Duke outscored their opponent 46-30 in the paint and the team was able to clear the bench with four minutes left in the game.

With the win Duke moves to 27-7 on the season.  They will take on Rhode Island (26-7) this Saturday with the time to be determined.

Duke is 4-0 all time versus the Rams but three of those games were decided by 2 points twice in the NCAA Tournament.  The other two games were a 3 point loss and a 10 point loss a year ago.
