BDN’s Monday Musings

A friend of mine told me over the weekend that it must be nice to finally have a break in my work with the season over and no sports in play around the Duke campus.  As I explained to him, there are no breaks when you run a Duke web site for there is always something going on.  Just this past weekend Duke Football held there annual camp as some of their top prospects and area talent put their skills on display.   BDN will be bringing you coverage from the event this coming weekend and we'll recap the past weekend as well tomorrow.  Coach Cutcliffe is turning the football program around and it's exciting to watch him add building blocks for the future.  BDN continues to offer our football prospect interviews for free, so please visit often for we are dedicated to following Duke Football Recruiting.

Returning Duke players Kyle Singler, Nolan Smith and Seth Curry all attended the CP3 Developmental Camp this past week as well.  Reports and sources say that all of them enjoyed a successful camp.  And speaking of camps, the Duke Basketball Camp gets underway this weekend as well.

Another big camp kicks off this week and that is the NBA Top 100 Camp in Charlottsville, Virginia.  Several Duke prospects will be on hand as will BDN to bring you coverage via out site and our popular twitter page.  Be sure to sign up for our twittwer page for updates as the camp progresses.  For a complete listing of the prospects on hand, check out BDN Premium's message board.  Also, see our trial one month offer for BDN Premium, so that you might see if you like what we have to offer.

BDN's Andrew Slater talked with Isaiah Austin recently and we bring premium members an in depth interview with a kid who is ranked #2 in his class by Prep Stars.  Austin is an Arlington, Texas native and stands 6-11 and while listed as a center, he has great perimeter skills.  Check out Andrew's in depth interview with a kid who is truly one of the nations elite.

It was good to see former Blue Devil Quin Snyder be tabbed as an assistant coach by Doug Collins, the new coach of Philadelphia 76'ers.  This is a great opportunity for Quin.

We still have a couple of offerings on the way from the Coach K Academy including a nice one on one with ESPN anaylist Jay Bilas.  Be sure to check out the Chris Collins interview and Elton Brand, both of which have already been posted.

Good Monday all, and Go Duke.  Oh!  And there is never an off season if you want to cover Duke Athletics right.  Don't forget to sign up and follow us on twitter where we are listed as BlueDevilNation.  Also, see and join us on our facebook page as well.

Duke Assistant Coach Chris Collins discusses Duke Basketball and more

There is nobody better than Duke Assistant Coach Chris Collins when it comes to an informative and entertaining interview.  Guys like Chris make my job easy for they are never short for answers and opinions and more importantly insight into the Duke program.  I caught up with Chris recently and we chatted about his Dad taking the Sixers job, what he is looking for with concerns to his future and of course, the national championship and next seasons team.  These are the kind of interviews you can expect as a visitor to Blue Devil Nation and a taste of what premium members get not only in the regular season, but the off season.  I hope you enjoy Chris's comments and that you bookmark Blue Devil Nation for great coverage on all things Duke.

Catching up with former Duke standout Elton Brand

DURHAM - BDN caught up to Elton Brand during the Coach K Academy and got his thoughts on his return to Duke and his future with the Philadelphia Sixers [76'ers].  We had a one on one interview save a few questions from folks who interrupted the conversation mid stream.  We'll be talking more with Brand in the coming months, so look for an extended interview down the road.  Please forgive the background noise in the audio tape and we'll be returning to print with the interviews in the future.  Next up - One on one with Chris Collins

Monday Musings

Good Monday morning Blue Devil Nation!  We'll start to churn out some interviews with the likes of Jay Bilas, Chris Collins, Chris Carrawell and Elton Brand as the week progresses.  Of course, a lot of ex players were in town for the Coach K Academy which started earlier than normal due Krzyzewski's duties with Team USA.  Needless to say, you'll enjoy hearing Bilas talk next season, Collins talk this past year, while CWell talks of future aspirations.

A trip to the Duke University Store will allow you to pick up plenty of national championship gear.  Check out the new LAX Championship items and grab another men's basketball t-shirt while you're at it.  Also, do not forget our sponsor football fanatics where you can get some really nice gear in a timely manner.  The ad is located at the top of our main page.

BDN's Andre Slater was on the scene at Pango's [AAU Camp] this past weekend and he will bring you reports and interviews as the week goes on if you are a premium member.  Quincy Miller won the event's most outstanding player and we'll be hearing more about that shortly.  BDN Premium still has several prospect interviews on the way including updates on the biggest names on the recruiting radar.

Speaking of recruiting, the Duke Football coaches have just returned from the road and we'll take a look at the latest as we play a little catch up on that front this week.  Our staff has had a lot going on of late and that has caused some temporary delays in coverage, but as many of you know, BDN supports Coach Cutcliffe and the football team and we'll attend pretty much every available event to bring you coverage of an up and coming program.

Pre season football magazines are rolling out and Duke is predicted 5th in the coastal division by almost everyone.  The best projected record to date is 5-7 with 4-8 being the cumulative average.  Our recommendation for the best publication is Phil Steele's College Football Annual.  Also worthy of mention is that Elon is rated 2nd in the nation in the FCS by one publication and no lower than 6th nationally in any of them.  In short, Elon is a pretty solid club that can give Duke problems on opening night.

One on one with Roshown McLeod

Former Blue Devil Roshown McLeod spent time with the Celtics but is now the head coach of one of the nations top prep schools.

DURHAM - It didn't take long for Roshown McLeod to land on his feet after parting ways with Indiana this past spring.  McLeod is now the head coach for St. Benedict's Prep in Newark, New Jersey where he takes over for Danny Hurley, brother of former Duke standout Bobby Hurley.  McLeod was the 20th overall pick by the Atlanta Hawks and he enjoyed some good games in the pro's before an Achilles tendon injury.  BDN caught up to "Ro" during a recent AAU event where he is hot on the trail after some of the nations top high school talent.  McLeod shares his thoughts on Duke's run to the title and much more in this audio interview you are sure to enjoy.  McLeod will pay BDN another visit as he settles what is looking like a very talented roster.  We hope you enjoy the interview.
