There are a lot of special surprises in the works for this Friday's Countdown to Craziness, so be sure to either attend or tune in to this event.  More details are forthcoming, but they want to keep some of the entertainment and activities under wraps.  The promotions for this event are listed at GoDuke.com or the Countdown for Craziness site.

In a recent talk with an assistant coach, I was told that every single player had come back better than they were before.  As always Duke will adjust their team to the personnel at hand.   All three freshman are expected to play key roles in their first season.  Andre Dawkins will be asked to feel some big shoes which formerly belonged to Gerald Henderson.  Ryan Kelly will add versatility and Mason Plumlee will almost certainly start in the post.   Kyle Singler will be allowed more freedom which may mean we'll see what he can do at his natural position.  We've hinted that Nolan Smith could have a breakout year and they will give him more of a leadership role as well.  Jon Scheyer has them excited and there are no worries that he cannot thrive once again as a dual point with Smith.  BDN will bring members the news from Wednesday's season opening press conference with Coach Krzyzewski in a live blog and will have audio up shortly after the gathering.

So far, there are four visitors slated to attend Countdown for Craziness.  [private] Marshall Plumlee leads the pack of prospects and he'll be joined by Quin Cook.  Duke verbals Tyler Thornton and Josh Hairston will also be there.  We will tell you if any others join the frey as the week goes on, so there is no reason to ask about this on the message board.

Now, let's talk about Kyrie Irving.  As some of you have already seen, any calls to Irving will only result in what you already know.  The date for his official announcement is October 22nd and that will be televised by ESPNU.  As we've told you, Irving will visit Kentucky's Midnight Madness, but there is little reason for worry despite anything you are apt to hear.  Irving will be a Dukie so let's just be patient and wait it out.

That said I would like to address recent issues on the message boards where some posters go into a tailspin at what they hear from other sites message boards.  Our policy has long been to deal in facts, not rumors.  Neither myself or the BDN staff will answer all of the rumors for what we tell you is factual and informed.  Please do not send me the "He said, she said," stuff for I can assure you I hear pretty much everything that goes on.  Our sources are as good as they get and our network grows daily.  If you hear something here, you can count on it and our track record speaks for itself.  If there is anything going on, I will tell you what I can, so it isn't always necessary to ask about every little whimper.  We have created a rumor forum for the purpose of containing rumors, propaganda and paranoia.  I will not answer a lot of questions in that forum.  I have also instructed moderators to take a firmer approach in an effort to keep this the best board out there.

Now, back to recruiting news.  Many close to the situation feel that Harrison Barnes is a two team race with Duke and North Carolina.  The Tar Heels have made up some ground and negative vibes have been sent out through various channels in the most heated battle between the two schools since Shane Battier.  No matter what cards the Heels play, Duke can counter and the relationship between Krzyzewski and Barnes has been solid from the start.  UNC is playing catch up and they have done a good job of impressing Barnes, but I cannot see them as being the leader as some suggest.  Maybe there is no leader, but that could change with Barnes official visit to Durham on October 23rd.    Expect Barnes to come in knowing that his friend Kyrie Irving committed the night before and expect Duke to be real and put their best foot forward during the visit.

Speaking of this site blowing up on October 22nd, let me set the scenario for you.  We expect Kyrie Irving to verbal to Duke on Friday and then there is the Pfeiffer exhibition game which we'll cover.  Of course, Harrison Barnes is in town and Duke plays Maryland at home in football, where we will again cover the event.  The next morning I will head to Greensboro, North Carolina for ACC Operation Basketball which kicks off the season with all of the ACC coaches and players from each team.  In short, articles, news and information will be all over the place.  You can bet I will be taking my vitamins in the coming days.  As we have said before, there are times when this site explodes so be prepared for the fireworks.

Duke is still recruiting and staying in contact with Roscoe Smith, but will only turn their attention to him after Harrison Barnes makes his decision.  Of course, Barnes to Duke would like cause Duke to move on to 2011.

Duke is still working on getting Brad Beal to visit Durham, but if Irving and Rivers fall into place, they would likely have enough players at his position.  They really like Beal though, as does most everyone who has seen him play.

The Blue Devils also stay in close contact with Quincy Miller [offered] who they feel is a Duke kid through and through, but with advisers in his ear, this one will almost assuredly go on for a while.

On a football note, recruits have responded very well to Dukes 49-28 win over NCSU and this one is already paying dividends in the class of 2011, especially in state.  Duke is expecting to be healthy for Maryland on the aforementioned super weekend and Cutcliffe will emphasize how to enjoy a win yet still know you have to work hard to earn victories.  Of course, this is new for many Blue Devils and it will be important for them to get a proper mind set for the coming ACC season.

Lastly, we'll talk of Austin Rivers.  Rivers has officially opened his recruitment up for Duke and it is Duke and Florida for his services.  Expect Rivers to concentrate on his coming high school season and then make his decision.  You all know by now that I am calling Duke in this one and yes I feel very confident about that.  I am very excited having watched Rivers adoringly on the AAU circuit in about 15 games. BDN Basketball Recruiting Update – Duke visits Irving today, Irving visits Duke this weekend

Kyrie Irving set to visit Duke - BDN Photo

The Duke Men's Basketball staff has been very busy during the most recent open recruiting period and they hope that the hard work pays off by months end.  This should prove to be an eventful week for Duke in that they have in homes and official visits in place.

Let's start out talking about Austin Rivers.  As some of you may know by now, Rivers had a great visit, so much so that many feel Duke made more than just a good impression.  It's up to Rivers now [private] in that he must first de-commit from Florida before Duke can actively recruit him.  The Duke staff told Rivers and his Mom to go home and discuss the matter with Doc.  There is a lot going on behind the scenes these days in Florida and Donovan is learning that building on those two titles is not so easy.  It is not out of the realm of thinking to see that a player sees how the Gators treated Jai Lucas and that they are still going after Brandon Knight. So, all eyes are now on the Rivers camp to see when they make an announcement.  Rivers is a Duke player through and through and he got along with the players very well during his visit.  We'll have more on this hot issue later.

Duke has cooled on the aforementioned Knight, only because Kyrie Irving is their first choice and they feel very good about the New Jersey native becoming one of their own.  Coach K and Chris Collins will be in Jersey today to visit with Irving and he will then visit Duke.  I think Irving will be a Dukie, it's just a matter of time.  Irving fits the Duke system well and the team has defined his role already.

Duke is taking no breaks with Harrison Barnes.  In fact, Coach K and Wojo visited Barnes during an open gym in Ames yesterday.  The Blue Devils are in very good shape with Barnes and in my opinion are the leader for his services.  UNC came in hard but they were late in doing so.  While I am not counting them out, I think the visit is more than wearing off.  The Heels gave it their best shot and followed up with a Roy Williams visit, but they now realize it is going to be tough to swoop him away and they are running out of bullets.  Barnes is still considering Kansas and Oklahoma.

The Blue Devils had their in home visits with Josh Hairston and Tyler Thornton on Sunday as we mentioned earlier.

Not much out there on Roscoe Smith due to trying to get in touch with him at Oak Hill Academy.  Here is the deal, Nate James visited Roscoe at his school this past week.  Duke is working on setting up an in home with his parents and that will likely take place in the next couple of weeks.

In the class of 2011, Duke has seen Quincy Miller, Marshall Plumlee, Brad Beal, Adonis Thomas, Michael Gilchrist and Trevor Cooney during this open period.

Duke took in2012  prospect Amile Jefferson, and JP Tokoto has also been seen this month.  So needless to say, the Duke staff has been working their butts off.

Here is a list of standing offers - Kyrie Irving, Harrison Barnes, Brandon Knight and Roscoe Smith from 2010.  Quincy Miller, Marshall Plumlee, Brad Beal and soon to be Michael Gilchrist in 2011.  In 2012, only JP Tokoto has been offered. [/private]

BDN Premium Recruiting Updates – Rivers set to vist Duke this coming weekend, visits made

Austin Rivers will visit campus this coming weekend with [private] his Mom.  The Rivers family contacted Duke last week to set up the visit.  There are positive vibes surrounding his visit, meaning that the staff feels they can make a great impression.

The men's staff was out in force a week ago seeing Brad Beal, Kyrie Irving, J.P. Tokoto and Quincy Miller in open gym sessions.  Duke will concentrate on Beal after the Rivers and Kyrie Irving official visits.

The visit went very well with Kyrie Irving this past week.  How good?  Well, Duke canceled their in home visit with Brandon Knight which was scheduled for tomorrow.  Duke is hoping that Irving pulls the trigger in the next month or earlier.  Duke will stay on Irving big time, so much so that they will visit an open gym on Tuesday of this week.

There are good feeling surrounding Quincy Miller, but with Brian Clifton involved there could be a long delay before he is ready or allowed to verbal anywhere.  When Duke offered Miller, he wasn't even near the top ten in the rankings.  He soared in the next go round of ratings showing that the Devils do have a good eye for talent.

Irving drives the lane at this past seasons NBAPA Top 100 Camp
Irving drives the lane at this past seasons NBAPA Top 100 Camp

Harrison Barnes was in a similar situation as well.  Duke offered Barnes shortly after the NBAPA Top 100 Camp in 2008.  He climbed the rankings steadily since that time.  Barnes is still slated to take all of his visits, but there was some reason for optimism on the recent visit to see Barnes.

Duke will be visiting Marshall Plumlee at Christ School this week as well.

So, breaking it down, I feel good about our chances with Irving, Barnes and Rivers.  Yes, Rivers.  Duke is a great fit for this young man and he'll certainly get a good look with his Mom.  If all goes well, Duke will set up an official visit and in homes.  Duke will go after Beal once the dust clears on a busy September.  They are in the process of setting up visits.

Duke will continue to set up plans on a week to week basis going forward.  Ideally, they get verbals from Miller and Tokoto early so they can concentrate on other areas.

The men's basketball staff is looking forward to the season and working with players as a whole instead of small groups.  There are no serious or nagging injuries being reported, meaning the team is in good health.  [/private]

BDN Premium Interview – Is Duke set to offer a third Plumlee?

Marshall Plumlee - Photo copyright BDN

Marshall Plumlee is a listed 6’11 1/2” center from Warsaw, Indiana, who plays for Christ School in Arden, North Carolina. The rising junior has been on the radar of recruiters for years due to his size and, more importantly, pedigree, as the youngest brother of two current Duke big men. At the recent Super 64 Adidas AAU event, Plumlee was observed by many of the nation’s elite coaches and programs, including Florida, Notre Dame, Indiana, North Carolina, Purdue, and Duke. While playing with the sixteen-and-under Indiana Elite team, Marshall led them to a Sweet Sixteen match up against Quinn Cook and D.C. Assault, who won the contest convincingly. Over the course of the tournament, Marshall spoke with Blue Devil Nation about a variety of issues, including what he’s been working on this summer, what Duke fans can expect out of Mason Plumlee, and how he differs from his older brothers on the court.

You’ve gotten some more offers coming in recently and there were plenty of coaches here to observe you, amongst others, today. Do you still view this as very early in your recruitment? Do you have a timeline in mind for when you’d like to decide?

Yeah, it’s still pretty early. At this point, I’m learning more about schools, [private] but, knowing the recruiting process, I’m more ignoring the recruiting process and still just focusing on getting ready for the upcoming season. I’ve still got a long ways to go. It’s been pretty exciting.

Yeah, absolutely. The gym was so packed today I was just grateful that they didn’t have an fire marshals.

(Laughs) Yeah, it was packed and hot out there.

What style of play do you feel best suits your game? Does it change now that you’ve grown to nearly seven feet?

I’ve always been a back-to-the-basket kind of player, but I’ve got to say my game is more fifteen feet and in. I’m trying to work on my ball-handling and on my fifteen foot shot. You know just trying to expand my game.

You hit all of your free throws in the second half.  Is foul shooting something that you’ve been working on as well?

Yeah, yeah, well, I normally go the free throw line a lot, but I normally don’t miss that much. (laughs)

No, no, no, you were fine with that today.

It’s something I’ve got to continue to work on.

Have you visited a lot of schools?

Well, I’ve visited a lot of schools with my brothers, but not necessarily for me. On my own, I’ve visited schools like IU, Notre Dame, and UNC. It’s exciting.

Sure, you’re the one being coveted.

Yeah, it’s exciting to be taken around and you’re the one being recruited, instead of just following around your older brothers.

Do you think it’s a major advantage for you having had two older brothers that have just gone through the process?

Most definitely. It’s a huge advantage, especially not just one brother, but two brothers. So, I have an idea of all the coaches that I’ve met and come across through their experiences. I’ve also looked at a variety of conferences. I feel like I’m pretty well off and I don’t feel as though I should feel rushed into any decisions.

I’ve spoken to Mason about this, but what was the move like for you when you came to the Christ School. You moved from Warsaw, Indiana to Arden, North Carolina.

That was exciting. It was a little tough being away from home and your family, but the experience was great and I love the school. You’re there with two hundred other kids in the same situation as you. You know, not sure about being away from home.

When I was in Asheville last year, I actually drove over. I thought I might as well see it. It’s so close.

Asheville is a beautiful city and I try to take advantage and see it as much as possible when I ‘m there. There’s so much to do there, especially outdoors, and I couldn’t be happier. I was a little unsure about the move at first, but I…

Mason had said he was a little unsure at first as well, but then it turned around.

Yeah, but now I couldn’t be happier.

I was checking my notes from a few prior interviews. Mason had mentioned that he thought Miles was the best athlete of the brothers, but that you were the best back-to-the-basket player. Do you feel that’s an accurate assessment?

Yeah, well, I guess that’s a good assessment, but I still feel like I’ve got a long ways to go before I reach my brothers’ levels in anything. They’re both really good. Miles and Mason are both great athletes and I’m so happy with how they’ve done. I just hope that I can be any bit like them…well, that’d be exciting. I’m still hoping to expand my game and develop physically.

By the way, how tall are you right now?

I’m about 6’11.”

Can you give the audience a scouting report on Mason and what they can expect?

Sure, they can expect to see him continuing to improve over the course of the season. I can guarantee that. They should expect him to improve every single game. He’s very head strong and determined. He’s got a great attitude. What you don’t see on the court is the amount of time he puts into the game off of the court.

I’m sure. He seems like a great kid.

He is. Everyone has a pretty good idea of what he can do on the court right now, but I can promise you that he’s been working very hard on improving and expanding his game.

Now I remember that Mason said that your mother was really more of a tennis player, but they needed to find a sneaky way to find a scholarship.

(Laughs) Yeah, yeah. I play tennis too actually.

Really? I’ve got to watch out for that serve. Having said that, how do you think it differentiates you from other kids in having both of your parents play college basketball? Compared to your parents, mine would’ve looked like a pair of midgets.

(Laughs) Yeah, it helps and I love them to death. The most important thing I’ve learned to do is…You know how you tend to just blow your parents off because they’re just always giving you advice, but really there is just so much that I don’t know. So I’m just trying to take it all in.

Sure, they must have a lot more to share than the average parent.

Yeah, definitely. My mom and my dad have helped me out greatly.

Did they make the trip? I’ve seen them at lot of other tournaments and events, but I didn’t see them here.

No, they didn’t make this trip.

Well, it’s so hot anyway. Let’s talk about your strengths and some areas that you’d like to improve upon.

I think my strengths are my defense and my ability to run the floor. Also, I can and like to throw outlet passes. My weaknesses would be my ball handling and my shooting. I want to develop a strong game from, maybe, seventeen feet and in. Just working on getting quick dribbles or pulling up for a jump shot. Oh, and free throws, of course.

How do you feel about your development, with respect to low-post moves?

Yeah, I feel pretty confident with my low-post moves actually. If you asked me to pick a spot on the floor where I wanted to score, I’d say “low post.”

Do you have any role models in basketball?

I’ve always personally admired Kevin Garnett for the energy he brings and how he plays. I try to just go out there and give it my all.

You’re different than your brothers in that you are a pure center at a younger age. Can you talk about being a pure center and how you feel it differentiates it you from your brothers?

It came more naturally to me. I’ve always been pretty tall. Miles was a late bloomer.

You were like 6’7” last year.

Yeah, I was. I’ve always been pretty tall for my age and I think playing inside just came more naturally for me. I’ve still got a lot of work to do, but I see myself playing down there. I’m probably not going to end up being as big as some of these guys so I’ve got to really work on expanding my game.

You were talking the other day about improving your ball-handling and range. Have you begun to seriously hit the weight room?

I have. The weight room…I’m not worried at all about that because having seen two brothers go through that.

Can you touch on what you’ve seen or heard Miles go through as a result of beginning a college weight room program?

I’m not worried about it. It’s something that’s going to come. I’ve worked in the weight room obviously. You can tell.

I know Mason has begun the program.

Yeah, it’s something that I’ll seriously ground out, once I stop growing.

I didn’t know what you were hoping to look like.

Yeah, it’s something where I think I’ll fill out after I stop growing.

Well, that touches on something else. Have the doctors talked with you about how tall you’re going to grow to?

I have no idea. I’m just going to prepare for anything and, so, I’m just going to work on my skills. That way regardless of how tall I grow to I’ll be prepared.

That’s a smart approach. When you’re not at tournaments and other events, what have you been working on this summer?

I’ve been working on my footwork and ball-handling. With my footwork, I’ve been jumping rope. I’ve been jumping a lot of rope and doing a lot of stepladders. You know just trying to improve my lateral quickness.

Lateral quickness?

Yeah, I feel I’m finally starting to get quicker end-to-end.

Yeah, I think you’ve made some strides in that area. How do you feel about your shot-blocking right now? Do you think this tournament has been a good example of your current ability to block shots?

I feel I still have a lot of work to do in that area. I try to come on the help side, but I’ve got to be just a half of a second quicker.

Who’s the toughest player you’ve ever defended?

Toughest player, hmm..

Outside of your family…so we don’t get political.

Well, when I played the Lopez brothers.

Oh, wow. That must’ve been an interesting experience, particularly at your age.

Yeah, it was. It was out at Stanford. It was really tough, but amazing.

What would you like the audience to know about you away from the court?

I can beat anybody at video games.

Alright, even Mason, I remember he said he was very good at them too.

Oh, yeah, I can beat him too.

How do you feel you’ve performed over this AAU season.?

I feel like I’ve improved a lot. With my performances on the court, I feel like I’ve made great strides. I obviously have a long way to go and I’m going to keep working, but, personally, I feel like I’ve made strides and I’m happy with myself in general. I think I’m on track and I’m going to keep working.

How has the team overall been playing? This was a good win against a quality program in the Playaz.

Yeah, it was. They beat us earlier in the season on a last second shot and they’ve got some quality players.

Kyle Anderson is a potentially interesting point guard prospect. I’ve spoken with him in the past.

Yeah, he is. We’ve been coming together. We’re improving and playing together more now.

Lastly, since I see someone waving you on, will you be able to make it Cameron for some games this year to see your brothers?

Yeah, they (Indiana Elite staff) want me to go. Will I make it to Cameron? Yeah, I‘ll be trying to. I’m going to try to go every chance I can get.

Note - Mason will attend the Duke Elite Camp and will almost certainly be offered a scholarship at that time per sources. - MW [/private]

Marshall Plumlee took to the floor in Cameron Indoor Stadium during last weeks TOC in front of his parents and brothers Mason and Miles.  His two brothers are already at Duke and Marshall will prepare for the upcoming season with Christ School by developing his skills on the AAU trail.   BDN talked with Marshall after his teams victory which you can hear in the following audio [private] blog.  Coming in July, Blue Devil Nation 2.0.

Prospect Focus – Marshall Plumlee speaks of his plan for improvement and his two brothers at Duke

Class of 2011 Marshall Plumlee - BDN Photo
Class of 2011 Marshall Plumlee - BDN Photo

During last season's Carolina Classic, Marshall Plumlee had a couple of breakout games where he showed his potential.  Plumlee, of course, is the younger brother of Miles and Mason, both of whom are Duke Blue Devils.  This coming season Marshall has a chance to start for Christ School.  He plans on continuing to refine his game and build his strength during his  last two years of high school.  The talented Greenies lost all but four lettermen, but Coach David Gaines is already reloading and plans to make a run at their fourth consecutive North Carolina Private School State Championship.

While at this past weekend's Carolina Challenge, Marshall showed off some new moves against the state's best players.  Plumlee showed a spin move in the lane which was quick and hard to stop for opposing players.  When he goes to that move he takes up a lot of the lane with his length and 6'-10" frame.

The key for Marshall will be to forge  his own identity in the coming season.  This will be the first time Plumlee will be playing without his brothers at Christ School.  Marshall sat down with BDN Premium for an exclusive one-on-one interview.  He talked about making his own destiny, his brother's game in tonight's McDonald's All American game, and much more in a lengthy interview.  We hope you enjoy his insights about having two brothers at Duke and what he expects to accomplish in the coming years.

Where did that spin move come from?

Oh from the top of the key? (smiling) I've been working on my ball handling and still have a long ways to go, but I'm going to keep working on it.  I'm trying to add to my game whatever I can.

What goes into that work?  What is your routine?

Basically, little bits and pieces of what I get at these kinds of camps.  I listen to what coaches tell me.  I go swimming in the morning so I can really run the floor well and have good conditioning.  I always try every practice, even though I have a post mindset, to do all my ball handling with two basketballs.  I need to do more, but it's a work in progress.

Have you been working out with your brother Mason?

[private] We've always worked out together a little bit, but this past year Mason and I have really spent some time together.  Whether it is playing one-on-one, or the days when I don't feel like going to the gym, he gets me up and motivated.

I bet you have to get him up at times too ...

(paused to think) Uh, no not really.  He's a workhorse so I'm trying to learn from him.

He has the McDonald's game.  Is he already down there?

Yes, he left this morning (Saturday).  I wish I could be there, but I'll be watching him on TV.  It should be a lot of fun.

Yeah, it should be a lot of fun.  Being in Miami this year, well, it's a long ways.  Have you ever been on the beaches in Miami?

(shaking his head and smiling as if to know he was being set up) No sir.

Well, that might be a good thing. What has Coach Gaines told you to work on in the off season?  You obviously have a situation this year where you will be building on your game.  You have two years left and Christ School suffered some key losses.

Well this year, and I have agreed with him, my role has been the little stuff like running the floor, playing defense, stopping people.  These next two years he really wants me to work on being stronger and an offensive threat.  So I'm trying to work on a lot of my shots - my jump shot especially.  Just try to add all the weapons I can to my offensive game.

What is the team prospectus for next season?

Well, there's a little bit of doubt whether we will be as good as we were this past season, but next year I hope we will be able to naysay the naysayers. I know of two new kids coming in that are very talented.  A PG from Knoxville, Tennessee named Brandon Lopez.  I'm excited to have a PG to work with.  He seems like a good leader.

So, all of a sudden you are thrust into a leadership role ...

Yeah, all of a sudden! (smiling)  Buts it's going to be easy because we have had a lot of good leaders to learn from in the past.  Of course, Mason is a big brother, but we also had people like Lakeem Jackson.  He helped me out.

You are looking forward to your chance to shine, right?

Yeah, I am looking forward to it, but regardless I am just worried about winning or a team contest.

Do you think Coach will go with twin towers next season?

(Laughed at the question) Twin Towers?  One thing that's been nice in the past is with Miles and Mason at the school is that they've been able to go in together and we were even bigger off the bench.  We won't have as many "tall towers" as you said, and Troutman and I will probably be playing together, which I like.  We don't have as much, well, I don't want to say post depth, but height off the bench, so we will have to be in good condition.

Who will you room with next year?

I don't know yet.  I like to switch it up each year.  One year I roomed with P.H. Broyhill of Broyhill furniture fame.

Okay.  So he could hook you up with the Lazy Boy couch and such ... a long one ...

(laughing) Last year I roomed with the the headmaster's son, a great kid, Jeff Kruger.  Next year, I will room with a kid from Greensboro.  So, not necessarily basketball players, but they're just a little ways down the hall.  So, I will spend plenty of time with them.

How are your Mom and Dad doing these days?  Are they going to the McDonald's game?

Yes.  They're excited for Mason and I'm excited for Mason.  Miles?  I'm excited for him.  I hope things go well for him next year at Duke after this year's rough ending.

It sounds as if you wished he'd  played a little more this season ...

Mile Plumlee watched his younger brother play this past weekend
Miles Plumlee watched his younger brother play this past weekend

Yeah, there is always some frustration, but he continues to work on his game.  I think if he keeps working .. it's a frustrating process, because we as a family know what he is capable of.  He's a superstar.  We think the world of him and I hope he gets the chance to show the world what we already know he can do next season.

Well, I think he might next season for I have head that the coaches are expecting a big improvement and for him to take on a bigger role.  With Duke being a taller team next season, with just three players in the back court at this point, they will draw up schemes for their personnel.

They will definitely put him to work, so I'm excited for him.  There has been a little frustration, but he's been positive and kept his head up.  From a team aspect, he works hard in practice helping other guys to get better and he takes advantage when he is able to get in the game.

Well, he got a cheerleader girlfriend out of the deal ... (smiling as they had come to see him play in his last game).

(laughing)  Yeah ... I don't know, I don't know if you necessarily need that in your first year ...

Miles took a big load upon himself when he first came to Duke with his major ...

Yeah, he's always dreamed of being an engineer.  It's tough when you are up until 2:00 in the morning doing homework and the next day you have a game. He's definitely keeping his academics up despite switch out.  Academics are big for him.

Tell me about your self as a person ... I guess you don't have a lot of time with school and all.

School work is pretty tough at Christ School.  I learned that the hard way during the basketball season and my parents gave me a little bit of a slap on the wrist. (smiling)  In my free time?  It's beautiful here in North Carolina and I've been taking advantage.  I've been kayaking even though I have a hard time fitting in the kayak. (continuing to smile).  I go caving.  I went with Mason and that's been a lot of fun doing things outside and taking advantage of that.

Not so much like Indiana?

Indiana is just flat.

Now your Mom!  I hear she is a little bit tougher than what she shows on the exterior ...

(smiling) I never watched her play college basketball but I hear she was the nicest person off the court, but quite the opposite when it is game time.

I hear she could give the hard foul when necessary ...

I wouldn't know about that.  She was a low post player and it got rough some times.

It's safe to say she was happy when the Purdue women (she played center for Purdue)  whooped up on Carolina in the NCAA's ...

(smiling) I bet she was.

Okay, I am going to let you out of the hot seat before I get you in trouble.  Thanks for your time and good luck with your development.

Thank  you, sir. [/private]
