DURHAM, N.C. – Duke redshirt sophomore center Jack Wohlabaugh, who transferred into the Blue Devil football program from Ohio State in January, will be eligible for competition this fall after the NCAA approved a waiver request for immediate eligibility.

A 6-4, 300-pound native of Akron, Ohio, who has three seasons of eligibility remaining, Wohlabaugh participated in spring practice with the Blue Devils and exited drills as the second string center behind redshirt senior Zach Harmon. Duke must replace two-year starting center Austin Davis, who served as a team captain and earned third team All-ACC honors as a redshirt senior in 2017. Harmon has 22 career starting assignments to his credit, all at either left or right offensive guard.

Wohlabaugh spent the 2016 and 2017 seasons with the Ohio State program and earned Academic All-Big Ten honors following the 2017 campaign. He did not see game action in his two seasons as the Buckeyes went a combined 23-4, earned a berth in the College Football Playoff in 2016 and won both the Big Ten Championship (27-21 over Wisconsin) and Goodyear Cotton Bowl (24-7 over Southern California) in 2017.

Coming out of Walsh Jesuit High School, Wohlabaugh was charted as a four-star prospect by Rivals.com and rated as the No. 4 center in the nation by Scout.com.

Duke opens the 2018 season at home on Friday, August 31 against Army West Point. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m., and the game will be televised by ESPNU.
