The Duke Blue Devils are coming off of their most complete win of the season over Utah State. Now they must show what they learned to date by taking on Indiana in Cameron Indoor Stadium in the prime time ESPN slot this evening.
The last time Duke played in a big game atmosphere they fell short against Kentucky. Coach Mike Krzyzewski recently said that his team was not ready to play in that contest due to youth and new roles.
It might be easy for some to discount Indiana who stumbled recently in a tournament and come in with a 5-2 record, but that would be a mistake. The Hoosiers are a very talented offensive team that can put up points to the tune of 88 ppg and they have legitimate stars with a good supporting cast.
James Blackmon Jr., Yogi Ferrell, Thomas Bryant and Troy Williams are all legitimate big time players and the reason pre season expectations were high in Bloomington. All four average in double figures and are capable of going off, so Duke will have to match them with some offense of their own.
Luke Kennard got going last time out and he will be needed on a night when all the Blue Devils must show up. And for what it's worth. Indiana will be looking for atonement on the national stage after suffering the recent upsets.
Grayson Allen will draw plenty of attention having led the Blue Devils to date and the captains will be looked to for leadership tonight. Duke will also be defending the nations longest home winning streak against non conference opponents which stands at 120 consecutive games.
This will be one of the better chances in that 15 year winning stretch for non conference team to catch a Duke team while they are still growing. But Duke showed some complete game toughness against Utah State, so perhaps the team is in the midst of coming together.
Tonight we have a team in Indiana coming off their best defensive effort of the season where they won by 42 points. Duke on the other hand wants to show it can win a big stage game. That makes for a heck of a game and one which will be competitive.
Duke will settle in by games end after thwarting a serious Indiana start. The pick is Duke 81 Indiana 75.
