BDN Video – Ryan Kelly and Miles Plumlee Post Game Comments

DURHAM - Blue Devil Nation was on the scene in Cameron Indoor Stadium as Coach Mike Krzyzewski won his 902nd career game, tying Bobby Knight for the record. I caught up to Ryan Kelly who scored a team high 17 points and Miles Plumlee who had a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds for their thoughts on the game and Coach K's accomplishment.

BDN goes one on one with Kyrie Irving

Blue Devil Nation video was live and on the scene at Cameron Indoor Stadium for the Blue Devils win over Shaw.  I caught up to Kyrie Irving in the locker room for a one on one interview where he spoke of going to sit with the Cameron Crazies with Nolan Smith and Lance Thomas.  I also addressed the Duke-UNC alumni game that is in the works with him.  Interestingly, another Duke site ran with all of my questions via WRAL which gives me a bit of a smile.  They all follow BDN around, LOL.  You can view our outstanding photo galleries by joining our  Blue Devil Nation Open Group Facebook page

Duke Men’s Basketball ranked 6th in nation in ESPN/USA Today Poll

DURHAM, N.C. – The Duke men’s basketball team is ranked sixth in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches’ Preseason Poll as announced on Thursday. The Blue Devils earned 635 points in the poll to start the season just outside of the top five. Duke has now been ranked in 75 consecutive ESPN/USA Today Coaches’ Polls, dating back to the final poll of the 2006-07 season. North Carolina claimed 30 of 31 first-place votes to earn the top spot in the preseason poll. Kentucky received the other first place vote and starts the year ranked second with Ohio State, Connecticut and Syracuse rounding out the top five. Duke is followed in the poll by Vanderbilt, Louisville, Memphis and Florida. Pittsburgh is ranked 11th overall with Baylor, Kansas, Wisconsin, Xavier, Arizona, Alabama, Michigan, Texas A&M and UCLA sitting inside the top 20. Marquette, Cincinnati, Gonzaga, California and Missouri round out the preseason top 25. The Blue Devils’ 2011-12 schedule features three games against teams ranked in the top 5 of the preseason poll. Duke faces No. 3 Ohio State in Columbus on Nov. 29 and also has matchups against No. 1 North Carolina on Feb. 8 in Chapel Hill and March 3 at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Duke’s schedule also includes potential matchups against No. 13 Kansas, No. 9 Memphis, No. 18 Michigan and No. 20 UCLA during the EA SPORTS Maui Invitational (Nov. 21-23). The Blue Devils also play Florida State, which finished two points outside the top 25, twice this season.

Resilient Duke comes back to defeat FIU 31-27

The Duke Blue Devils capped off a huge turnover with a touchdown on the first play from scrimmage where Juwan Thompson rambled 6 yards into the the right side of the end zone.  That score gave Duke a 31-27 lead that would stand.  The reason the lead would stand is because of a stand, one by the defense where they turned back FIU in the redzone after a 11 play 60 yards drive deep into Duke territory.

Duke then ran out the clock for the win and go to 3-2 on the season, 1-0 in the ACC.  The Blue Devils were aided by the fact that they did not commit a turnover and had but two penalties in the game.  That offset the discrepancy in total offense, where Florida International had 184 more yards than did Duke.

Sean Renfree had another good outing going  28-43 for 335 yards and two touchdowns and no interceptions.  One of those touchdowns went to Conner Vernon, [8 receptions, 117 yards,  1 touchdown] one part of the Miami receiving duo returning home the other being Donovan Varner [7 receptions 111 yards].

The other touchdown thrown by Renfree went to Cooper Helfet for 22 yards which gave Duke a 17-14 lead.   The Blue Devils found themselves trailing 27-17, but on this night they were resilient and opportunistic in their comeback win.

More to come on BDN, including post game interviews with players and Coach Cutcliffe.

BDN chats up Duke LB Kelby Brown

BDN was on hand for today's weekly football press conference and we caught up to Duke LB Kelby Brown who relishes the role of a leader on defense.

Now that you have a couple of wins, does this create a hunger for more?

Having two straight wins, we're trying to take advantage and build on that.  I think the more we win the hungrier we'll get so it's a great feeling and it's awesome finally getting a home win. The campus was alive and everybody was excited and people were coming up saying great game and that's something that we love.  So, the hunger is building and building.

The defense played well against Tulane and only let up a touchdown in the 4th quarter.  Can elaborate about the comfort level with the 4-2-5 defense?

Each week we've gained a little more confidence in our defensive scheme.  Obviously last week was a great chance to say, hey look, were going to stop this team and they're not going to do anything against us and for most of the game that is pretty much how it went.

You are just a sophomore but already a leader on this team.  Can you speak to that?

It's something that I am kind of used to in that I was a leader in high school.  Even last year I had to kind of step up and lead as a freshman because I am a real vocal person,  so I did to try and keep the energy up on the field.  It's something that I love to do.  Being a leader is just natural for me.

How tough was it to lose Kenny Anunike for the season?

Hard hit!  He was playing so well and made big play after big play.  He is such a great person to so it is a huge loss.  We have to move forward and have great guys behind him but a tough loss such a good guy.
