Duke rocks Carolina 75-58 to win ACC Championship
GREENSBORO - Duke knocked the Tar Heels back on their heels taking control of the ACC Championship game from the outset, but there would be no come from behind win today. The Blue Devils defense locked down the Tar Heels holding them to 33.9% from the field. Duke senior Kyle Singler held down Harrison Barnes as well. Barnes put on a show in the tournament the day before scoring 40 points, but today he tallied just 16.
Duke had a very balanced attack on the offensive end with six players scoring 9 or more points. They were once again led by Nolan Smith the tournaments most valuable player. Coming into the game, no offense looked better than the Tar Heels, but Duke flipped them, shooting 50% from the field and knocking down 9 of 20 three point attempts.
The win pushed the Blue Devils record to 30-4 overall and they will go back to Durham, eat as a team and then watch to see where they will be seeded and headed in the coming NCAA Tournament.
In other news, Kyrie Irving told BDN he is working with the team, participating more daily and that he did not think there was a chance at a similar injury. Irving seemed positive when asked if he would return to the court for the tournament and gave the distinct impression that he would.
The Blue Devils who were schooled down low in Chapel Hill, outscored North Carolina in the paint 32-30 and the bigs played very well. In fact, the whole team played well and that was the main key to victory. Duke had success running the ball as well when breaks were available and they held a 19-11 edge in scoring off turnovers.

Nolan Smith talks the ACC Championship game
GREENSBORO - BDN Video was on the scene to bring you players post game comments. Here is Nolan Smith -
Tar Heels earn a win over Duke
CHAPEL HILL - First of all congrats to North Carolina, they earned that win and outplayed Duke. Yes Duke lost, 81-67 and the Tar Heels won the ACC Regular season championship, but that is not the one people will remember at years end. The ACC Tournament winner is crowned ACC Champions and don't be surprised if these two don't hook up again.
The difference was the play of Kendall Marshall who ran his team like a well oiled machine dishing out 15 assists, 6 more than the entire Duke team. Add that to the fact that only Seth Curry made a three point shot and there is little reason to wonder why Duke lost. The bottom line is that Duke struggled on offense hitting just 35.5% from the field.
Nolan Smith tried to put his team on his back ending the game with 30 points and solidfying his ACC Player of the Year title in the process. But every time Duke would make a run, North Carolina had an answer. With four Tar Heels in double figures and just two Blue Devils, the aforementioned Smith and Curry with 20, well, that was telling too.
Sometimes things just don't work out and that was the case for Duke where key players went 4 for 26 from the field. Duke also got outscored 44-20 in the paint. For the Devils to reverse this trend, senior Kyle Singler needs to find his stroke and some offensive production from the bigs is a must.
It was not a pretty sight for Duke fans, the Heels rushing the court but folks, it hurts the most when you are on the top and lose. Every single opponenet that has beaten Duke in the past two years rushed the court and some of the fair weathered fans flat out need an attitude adjustment.
It's really kind of silly when Duke or North Carolina is down to ridicule them for they have given their fan bases a ton of awesome memories. There is not much else to say. We chose not to interview the Duke players in the locker room or Coach Krzyzewski in the press room for most of you don't want to see it and in all honesty, they just wanted to get out of here and prepare for the tournament.
And for those who think Duke is reeling, get real. Fans from other schools would kill to win 27 games in the regular season and there is no reason to think Duke cannot bounce back.
See you in Greensboro.
Christmas helps Duke advance to ACC title game
GREENSBORO - The Duke Blue Devils are headed to the ACC Tournament Championship game with74-66 a victory over a pesky Georgia Tech team. The Blue Devils dominated the paint area outscoring the Yellow Jackets by a 28-16 margin in the paint.
The Yellow Jackets cut a large Duke lead down to 2 with 7:10 left, but Duke bounced back on back to back baseline buckets from Karima Christmas and Haley Peters and then another Christmas lay in and then one from Thomas which sparked an 8-2 run and that edge carried the Blue Devils through to victory.
Karima Christmas had a monster game for the winners throwing in a team high 20 points to go with 6 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 assists. When Duke needed a bucket or a play she seemed will to take on that role.
The Blue Devils came out red hot in the first half shooting an impressive 68,2% from the field and that effort ranks 7th in the schools history. Duke enjoyed a 13-5 edge off turnovers as well despite the Yellow Jackets vaunted press.
Jasmine Thomas added 12 points, while Chelsea Gray tossed in 10 as the only double figure scorers save the aforementioned Christmas. Once again, Coach P played 10 players but her bench got a bit shorter via minutes played for some players which is a combination a shortened bench and match ups.
With the win Duke goes to 28-3 on the season and they play the winner of the North Carolina-Miami game at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. That said, let's have a nice turnout to support the Blue Devils in Greensboro tomorrow.
Check back for videos. We had a hard time downloading them in Greensboro but will try when we get to Chapel Hill for tonight's men's game.
