DURHAM, N.C. — The 2010-11 Duke men’s basketball schedule was announced on Thursday, as the Atlantic Coast Conference released the men’s schedules of all 12 member institutions.
The Blue Devils, who return nine letterwinners and three starters from last year’s National Championship team that finished 35-5 overall, face another challenging schedule in 2010-11.
Duke begins the season at home in the O’Reilly Auto Parts CBE Classic against Princeton (Nov. 14) and Miami [Oh.] (Nov. 16). The Blue Devils automatically advance to Kansas City, Mo., and will play Marquette (Nov. 22) and either Gonzaga or Kansas State (Nov. 23) as part of the CBE Classic.
Duke’s non-conference slate also features home games versus Colgate, Michigan State (ACC/Big Ten Challenge), Bradley, Saint Louis, Elon, Alabama-Birmingham and Temple. The Blue Devils non-conference road schedule includes games at UNC Greensboro and St. John’s as well as neutral site contests against Oregon (Nov. 27 at the Rose Garden in Portland, Ore.) and Bulter (Carquest Classic - Dec. 4 at the Izod Center in East Rutherford, N.J.).
The Blue Devils play 13 games against 2010 NCAA Tournament qualifiers in 2010-11, including a rematch of the title game with Butler and a matchup with Final Four participant Michigan State.
Duke again will have a full slate of televised contests, with 29 regular season games scheduled to be aired on either national or regional television. Including the opening round of the ACC Tournament, which will be played in Greensboro, N.C., the Blue Devils will appear on national television at least 28 times this season on CBS, ESPN, espn2, ESPNU and FSN (Fox Sports Net). Raycom (RAY) will broadcast Duke’s Jan. 27 game against Boston College, while Fox Sports South (FSS) will televise the Dec. 20 contest against Elon.
In addition to its non-conference schedule, Duke will face another rigorous ACC slate in 2010-11. The Blue Devils will play a home-and-home series with Miami, Maryland, N.C. State, North Carolina and Virginia this season. Duke also will host Boston College, Georgia Tech and Clemson, while making road trips to Florida State, Wake Forest and Virginia Tech.
Duke has won eight ACC regular season championships in the past 14 years and nine of the last 12 ACC Tournament titles. The Blue Devils have compiled an impressive 178-46 league record over the past 14 seasons, including a 13-3 mark last year.
Duke opens the 2010-11 preseason on Oct. 15 with Countdown to Craziness. The Blue Devils will then play St. Augustine’s (Oct. 23) and Cal Poly Pomona (Nov. 4) in exhibition games prior to the start of the regular season.
