During last nights thrilling Duke win over North Carolina in Chapel Hill, senior captain Marshall Plumlee played a large role in the thrilling win. In his final season at Duke, Plumlee has become a steady leader and is playing the best basketball of his life in meaningful minutes. Plumlee came back into the game last night after getting whistled for his fourth foul. During that time his presence was felt immediately as he grabbed a quick defensive rebound and scored a critical put back bucket on the next offensive possession. An elated Plumlee talked of the win and playing with four fouls and the coaches faith in his play.
An amazing game and win for Duke What is your initial reaction after this victory?
I couldn't be more proud of my teammates, especially with the adversity of losing a player we love so much in Matt Jones. Our guys fought through playing against UNC and fought through getting tired. So, again, I am really proud of our guys against a tough UNC team.
How gutsy was this?
It took every bit of effort with everybody locked in and handling ups and downs throughout the game, but coach made sure we kept our eye on the prize and we all locked in to winning and were able to pull it out.
You've been a part of some pretty big wins, where does this one rank off the top of your head?
For me? This one was special for me just because past years I wasn't as big a part of some of the games playing time wise. In this one I was out there fighting with my teammates and when you fight together like that you create special moments and this was one of those moments.
You played with four fouls down the stretch and yet you were able to remain aggressive and play well.
Yeah, the coaches , they really put a lot of faith in me and confidence in me to the point where I am not even thinking about my fouls or thinking about Matt Jones being out . I just focused and tried to play my best basketball. The coaches really lift us and inspire us.
