Duke Takes On Wake Forest

f8820232-f51e-4fcb-984e-420efb9fcfcdIt's really simple tonight for Duke.  Firstly, don't get caught looking ahead and second, stay with your own system.  When the Blue Devils take to the court tonight to take on Wake Forest in Cameron Indoor Stadium, they will be the heavy favorite to win the game.  But we have all seen that one cannot sleep on anybody in the ACC.

Wake Forest has had a disappointing season to date and so this will be a game they want to show a little mettle in before tournament time.  As for Duke, this is a must win in the conference standings if they are to possibly get a double bye.  What needs to happen for Duke is simply to take care of business and to do that they cannot be caught looking ahead to UNC this weekend.

That is not as easy as it sounds.  Already ESPN types are coming to campus for GameDay preparations.   But Duke has Mike Krzyzewski at the helm and he's been in this situation before on many occasions. It's easier to get undivided focus for the task at hand from a veteran club, but this years group has done a good job in their last several games of winning their fair share of games.

Duke is coming off a loss to Pitt on the road where they were hit by a buzz saw.  The Panthers player their best game of the season with their backs to the wall in a game that most felt Duke was never in it once the opponent established a workable lead.  Quite simply, Duke cannot allow teams to get off to a double-digit lead and expect to win.

In that game, Duke was severely out rebounded and shoring up that problem has likely been a focus in the little time they've had since the Sunday contest.  It's hard to blame tired legs for not getting to boards, but Marshall Plumlee had never looked like he was on an island of his own than in that game.

The Blue Devils should bounce back.  And they likely will.  But it will take concentration and a fast start to keep the Demon Deacons from gaining confidence.  Look for Grayson Allen and Brandon Ingram to bounce back in tonight's game and hopefully Duke can use its short two-man bench early and often,

The game will tip-off at an odd time of 8:00 and Duke will need to immediately get some rest in short order with you know who on the horizon.  It's come down to these last two regular season games for Duke this year and they will need the home team fans to help them close out the season on a high note.

The Blue Devils are 11-1 against the Demon Deacons in their last twelve meetings.  The Blue Devils are currently ranked 17th in the A.P.  Duke is basically in a fight with Notre Dame for a spot in the top four in the league which means a double bye, where both have 10-6 records.
