The Opening Tip

• Duke (30-4, 15-3) faces San Diego State (27-8, 14-4 MW) Sunday, March 22 at Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte. Tipoff is set for 2:40 p.m. with Jim Nantz, Bill Raftery, Grant Hill and Tracy Wolfson calling the action for CBS.

• The Blue Devils were tabbed the No. 1 seed in the South Region. Duke has received a No. 1 seed 13 times, second-most in NCAA Tournament history.

• Duke is 100-34 (.746) all-time in NCAA Tournament play, including an 83-26 (.761) mark under head coach Mike Krzyzewski. Duke is one of three programs with 100 NCAA tourney wins.

• Duke is 33-6 (.846) in the state of North Carolina in NCAA Tournament play, including an 11-3 (.786) mark in Charlotte.

• The Blue Devils enter Friday’s game ranked No. 4 in the AP Poll and No. 5 in the USA Today Coaches Poll. Duke is 76-15 (.835) overall when ranked No. 4 in the AP Poll.

Last Time Out

• Duke posted an 85-56 win over Robert Morris Friday as Quinn Cook (22) and Jahlil Okafor (21) combined for 43 points on 17-of-23 (.739) shooting.

• Cook knocked down six three-pointers as Duke went 10-of-21 (.476) from behind the arc.

• Okafor was 9-of-11 (.818) from the field to match the third-best field goal percentage by a Blue Devil in NCAA Tournament history.

• Tyus Jones added 10 points and seven assists, while Justise Winslow recorded six points, 11 rebounds and seven assists.

• Marshall Plumlee came off the bench to notch his first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

• Duke recorded an assist on 28 of its 34 made field goals and shot 63.0 percent (34-of-54) from the field in the win. Duke’s 28 assists also set a school NCAA Tournament game record.

By the Numbers

• Jahlil Okafor was named ACC Player of the Year, becoming the first freshman in league history to claim the honor and just the ninth freshman out of a major conference (ACC, Big East, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac 12, SEC) to earn player of the year accolades.

• Jahlil Okafor leads the Blue Devils and ranks among the top five in the ACC in scoring (17.8 ppg.), rebounds (8.8 rpg.) and field goal percentage (.674). He is attempting to become the first freshman to lead Duke in all three categories.

• Quinn Cook is averaging a career-high 15.9 points per game while also posting career bests in field goal percentage (.460), three-point percentage (.408), three-point field goals (2.85 3pg.) and free throw percentage (.891).

• Duke is the only team in the NCAA with three freshmen averaging double figures in scoring. Jahlil Okafor (17.8 ppg.), Justise Winslow (12.1 ppg.) and Tyus Jones (11.6 ppg.) combine for 41.5 points per game (51.4 percent of Duke scoring). The trio has combined for 40 or more points in a game 20 times this season.

• A freshman has led the Blue Devils in scoring in 24 of 34 games. Jahlil Okafor has paced the offensive attack 13 times, while Tyus Jones (7), Justise Winslow (3) and Grayson Allen (1) have also led Duke in scoring. The rookie class has also accounted for 23 of Duke’s 30 20-point games on the year (Okafor 13, Jones 6, Winslow 3, Allen 1).

• Quinn Cook has made at least one three-point field goal in each of the past 44 games, the fifth-longest streak in ACC history. He is shooting 41.2 percent (119-of-289) from behind the arc in that stretch. Cook has an ACC-high 97 three-point field goals and is three treys shy of becoming the sixth Blue Devil to make 100 three-pointers in a season.

• Duke’s starting backcourt of Quinn Cook and Tyus Jones has combined to shoot 88.7 percent (204-of-230) from the free throw line. The remaining six players in the Duke rotation are 299-of-499 (.599) from the charity stripe.

• Justise Winslow is averaging 14.1 points and 8.0 rebounds per game while shooting 54.9 percent (79-of-144) from the field, including 48.6 percent (17-of-35) from three-point range, over the past 15 games.

• Jahlil Okafor leads the ACC and ranks second nationally with a .674 field goal percentage (248-of-368). He has shot 70 percent or better from the field 19 times on the year. Okafor’s field goal percentage is second-best in Duke history, trailing only Christian Laettner’s .723 (115-of-159) field goal percentange as a freshman in 1989.

• Tyus Jones leads the Blue Devils in assists (197) and steals (51). Tommy Amaker (1984), Bobby Hurley (1990) and Jason Williams (2000) are the only Blue Devils to lead the team in both categories as freshmen.

• Duke leads the ACC and ranks fourth nationally in scoring (80.7 ppg.). The Blue Devils are looking to pace the conference in scoring in back-to-back years for the first time since finishing atop the league scoring charts from 1997-2003.

• Duke is playing its 288th consecutive game as a ranked team in the AP Poll. The Blue Devils are 238-49 (.829) in that span.

• The Blue Devils recorded their 30th win of the season Friday to match the NCAA record with 14 30-win seasons. Mike Krzyzewski holds the NCAA record for 30-win seasons by a coach with 14.

• Duke is one of three teams in the NCAA shooting over 50 percent from the field. The Blue Devils have shot 50 percent of better from the field 17 times on the year.
