The Duke Blue Devils used a 9-0 run to close out a 66-57 victory over Clemson. In the process, Duke took over sole possession of 2nd place in the Atlantic Coast Conference standings. Duke now stands 22-5 overall this season and the team will likely move up several spots in the polls after consecutive wins.
Grayson Allen led Duke in the first half where he scored 17 points. He would end the game with a team high 19 points to go with 4 steals. The Captain had help from his teammates. His backcourt mate Trevon Duval added 4 steals and 12 points.
Duval switched to the front of the zone defense against Clemson which was the role Allen had in the win over Virginia Tech. The Duke zone defense frustrated their second straight conference opponent via active movement and communication.
The Blue Devils continued to show growth among its rotation and individual players. Wendell Carter Jr. had a stellar second half after starting slowly. Most of his points and rebounds came in the last half where he ended the game with 15 points, 10 rebounds and 3 blocked shots.
Gary Trent Jr. knocked down three huge free throws late in the contest and added 11 points to go with 7 rebounds. Javin DeLaurier got his first career start and scored 2 points while pulling down 10 rebounds. Duke also got good stats from Marques Bolden with 2 blocked shots and Jack White who found an opening in the defense for a first half dunk.
Duke held Clemson to just 34% from the floor and just 24% in the second half. All in all, the team showed more mental toughness in a key road win. The team will now close out the season with three of its last four games in Cameron Indoor Stadium.
