Tre Jones Tallies 39 Points in Close Loss

B

The last time ESPN visited Apple Valley High School, Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski was in the stands watching Tyus Jones go up against Jahlil Okafor.  The two would go on to become teammates in Durham where they led the Blue Devils to a national championship in their freshman season.

Last evening, ESPN returned to Minnesota where another soon to be Blue Devil took to the court.  And that just happens to be Tyus younger brother Tre.

Tre Jones will follow in his brothers footsteps and attend Duke University next season where he will take over the point guard spot.  It is widely thought that, Trevon Duval will announce his intent on going to the NBA after the season.

"He's a Jones," that is all you need to know said a long time follower of high school basketball.  Tre Jones hopes he can incite more magic in Durham where he will join future teammates in highly ranked R.J. Barrett and Cameron Reddish.

Jones would tally 39 points last evening while dishing out a bushel of assists.  He was the best player on the court, but on this evening Apple Valley fell just short of a win in a hard-fought 82-79 loss.  Jones tried to lead a furious comeback but in the end his team could not overcome Minnehaha Academy led by Jalen Suggs.

I witnessed Jones AAU team, Howard Pulley, lose their opening game during the Nike EYBL season,  Jones took that loss hard before his team went on a major roll to become one of the circuits powers.

There is little doubt Jones took last evening loss hard as well with his brother in attendance.  But one of the reasons Tre is rated so highly is his ability to bounce back and improve.

Tre Jones’ final line for the evening was  39 points, 10 rebounds, 9 assists, 1 blocked shot,   You can't get much better than that.

No. 1 Prospect RJ Barrett is a Duke Blue Devil

Canadian superstar, R.J. Barrett is a Duke Blue Devil.

Duke landed another stellar prospect and the best player on Canada when Rowan (RJ) Barrett committed to the Blue Devils on Friday evening.

Barrett possesses tremendous scoring instincts and led Team Canada to a historic win over Team USA this past summer.  The sleek, multi faceted wing scored 38 points in that game on a team that feature future teammates Cameron Reddish and Tre Jones.

The young star to be excels in the transition game, easily creating his own shot or dishing an assist.  He has good range and plays with a lot of energy quickly surveying the floor and calculating his move.

Barrett plays his high school basketball for Montverde Academy in Florida.  He has played with some different Nike teams but mostly for Nike Uplay in Canada.  He hails from Mississauga, Ontario.  He made his announcement on the TSN (The Sports Network) which is in his home country of Canada.

Barrett is another can't miss prospect who will make Cameron Crazies blush with his play.  Many feel he will be the top pick in the 2019 NBA Draft which shows the respect he has earned with his play.

Tre Jones Signs LOI to Duke

Tre Jones has officially signed his letter of intent to attend Duke University.  He did so today at his Apple Valley High School.

The Minnesota native is the top rated point guard in his class having blown up on the shoe circuit during his senior season.  He also played a key role for USA Basketball over his high school career.

Jones selected Duke on August the 13th, saying, "Today, it's not about me. It's about my tomorrow. And my tomorrow will be at Duke University," said Jones just minutes ago.  He was flanked by his two brothers and his mom Debbie at that time.

Joey Baker is a Blue Devil!

Joey Baker, center

Some young prospect just know where they want to go.  One of those is Joey Baker who announced that he is the first 2019 verbal commitment to Duke University,

Baker is a five-star forward from Fayetteville, North Carolina which is where current Los Angeles Lakers star Brandon Ingram is from.    The Trinity Christian standout has been on multiple visits to Duke where he most recently joined a bevy of stars for Countdown to Craziness,

This one was more or less over when Duke offered Baker on September the 30th.  It is widely known that Baker was high on the Blue Devils and what Mike Krzyzewski had to say since their initial contact.

Once again, Duke benefits from getting a young man who had watch them growing up and one who knew that would be his future home.  Baker is considered to be a versatile small forward and he is asked to do it all for his high school team.  Baker averaged 13.6 ppg for Team Felton over the summer.

Baker will now turn his attention to his high school season while making some trips to Cameron to see this years talented team.  You can also look to him in making an effort to recruit other talented players to play alongside him.
